Another amazing night of comedy here Live At The Civic!

Henning Wehn
The self-titled "German Comedy Ambassador to the United Kingdom".
This is not the easiest of jobs because Germans allegedly do not have a sense of humour. Henning does not find that funny.
He took office in October 2003 after watching an open mic night that left him convinced that he wouldn’t be all that much worse. Wehn has been performing as the self-styled ‘German Comedy Ambassador’ ever since.
As seen on a whole host of TV programmes including Live At The Apollo, Would I Lie To You, QI, Have I Got News For You and Room 101.

Roger Monkhouse
A consummate stand-up who employs a deadly combination of charm and menace to exert a masterful control over any audience.
A highly original and quirky performer, Roger Monkhouse'`s trademark stage-prowling style and curious, inimitable manner have established him as one of the hottest names on the comedy circuit.
Supremely confident, with audience banter down to an art form, Roger is happy to improvise freely but has no shortage of first class material in his armoury.
A master of observational comedy with a routine that is universally and unfailingly hysterical. A sought after compere and headliner across the UK and internationally.

“Unfailingly entertaining and skilfully able to pull punch lines, seemingly, out of thin air” Chortle

Nige
Lovable scally Nige is the creation of failed singer/musician Keith Carter and saved him from a life of temping.
Nige’s seventh comedy gig was as a finalist for the BBC New Comedy Awards in 2001, since then he has travelled throughout the world, supporting many top comics such as Ricky Gervais and Johnny Vegas. in 2005.
Capital of Culture judge, Sir Jeremy Isaacs was quoted in the news as saying, ‘He helped Liverpool win the bid,’ after seeing Carter’s comic creation and Liverpool cult hero, ‘Nige’ perform at the cultural bid show for the judges.
The two highlights of Keith’s showbiz career are having his one and only single played by John Peel and accidentally knocking George Martin into an ice sculpture whilst drunk. Carter is proficient on guitar, harmonica and piano and can’t believe he is getting away with not having a proper job. He is currently waiting for someone to tap him on the shoulder to tell him it’s all over.

These guys were amazing here back in May and we're excited to announce we've managed to re-book for 2020!

UK Bjorn: There has been and will only ever be one ABBA! Here in UK Björn we celebrate the timeless music, without pretending to be the Swedish sensations themselves. No bad hair, no phoney accents, just the desire to pay homage to ABBA whilst providing an amazing tribute, without any compromise on quality.

With the classic sound and look being carefully replicated and by adding a huge handful of on stage pizzazz, you’ll be transported right back to the good old days where it all began and taken on a journey through the many years of global domination.

With not a prima-dona in sight and the only band rider being that everyone has a great time, UK Björn never fails to put on a show that keeps people coming back for more time and time again.

Supported by a top party DJ until late this will quite simply be a fantastic night out!

He has appeared and recorded with many of the finest artistes in the music industry, including Glen Campbell, Dave Edmunds, Dolly Parton, Bobby Bare, Joan Armatrading, Ricky Scaggs, Joe Cocker, Willie Nelson, Linda Ronstadt, Rodney Crowell, Vince Gill, Travis Tritt, The Blue Caps, Robert Wells and Earl Scruggs.

**Our Soul Funk Disco Night Is Back!**

A complete night of Soul, Funk and Disco on Friday 20th March.

We've been running "We Got Soul" now for the last few years and it has built into a truly great night and we cover Motown, Old Soul and a bit of Northern Soul, but we seem to get loads of requests that head into that ... shall we call it ... soulful disco?

Its not "Old Soul" and it's not "Stayin' Alive!", it's that grey area populated by Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel, Rock Your Baby, Love Really Hurts Without You, Ain't Nobody etc.
Great tunes, great dancing and they are soulful but we don't really bring them in much on a "We Got Soul" event ...so ...
Think “Car Wash”, “C.O.N.T.A.C.T.”, “Miss Grace”, “Young Hearts”, “Rock Your Baby”, “Never Too Much”, “Ain’t Nobody”, “Boogie Nights” , “Street Life” and you’ll get the vibe.

Quite simply a great night out and tickets only £5 in advance!

Keeping The Dream Alive is a play written by Rose Cook Monk honouring the iconic Duncan Edwards and the events of the Munich air crash.

This incredible play tells the story of the world’s greatest footballer Duncan Edwards, who tragically died on the 21st February 1958 from injuries sustained in the infamous Munich aircraft disaster which killed eight of the magnificent Busby Babes, the wonderfully talented young Manchester United players, who under the Management of the iconic Matt Busby were the very best of young footballing talent.

This play is sympathetically and carefully penned with the full backing of Duncan's loving family. Revealing details about the disaster that are largely unknown, it tells the personal stories of those closest to Duncan in the wake of the tragedy.

This play features the very best of local talent and the one and only academy award winner Bernard Hill, who is a life long Manchester United fan.

SHREK is here in June 2020 - a regional premiere!!

From the award-winning Quarry Bank Musical Theatre Society, everything #goesgreen from 30th May - 6th June 2020.

Extra dates have been added as this show will sell out exceptionally quickly!

Set in a mythical “once upon a time” sort of land, Shrek the Musical is the story of a hulking green ogre who, after being mocked and feared his entire life by anything that crosses his path, retreats to an ugly green swamp to exist in happy isolation. Suddenly, a gang of homeless fairy-tale characters (Pinocchio, Cinderella, the Three Pigs, you name it) raid his sanctuary, saying they’ve been evicted by the vertically challenged Lord Farquaad.

So Shrek strikes a deal: I’ll get your homes back, if you give me my home back! But when Shrek and Farquaad meet, the Lord strikes a deal of his own: He’ll give the fairy-tale characters their homes back, if Shrek rescues Princess Fiona. Shrek obliges, yet finds something appealing–something strange and different–about this pretty princess. He likes her. A lot. But why does she always run off when the sun sets?

Get these dates in your dairy, and don't mis out on this "Big, Bright, Beautiful World!"

They’re back, following the success of the Roman Romp in 2019 .

TEMPTATION IN THE TEMPLE A farcical adult comedy by K.R.S. Foster The company that has created a cult following around the UK with his brand of Adult Panto will be visiting in the summer with their farcical adult comedy.

At the Temple of Vesta, ‘celibacy’ is a way of life. However, for reluctant virgin, Frigella the Fulfiller , this means her only chance at ‘Shagamus’ is to escape to the Temple of Venus next door.

A fool - proof plan is needed and this must be expertly implemented to avoid a nasty punishment. Sadly, with Frigella’s well - meaning but charmingly stupid friend, Bimbus , things will never be straightforward, especially with the High Priestess, Virginia Creeper, suspicious of her every move!

Don’t miss this hilarious evening of farcical confusion and outrageous innuendo...it may also contain mild audience participation!

Tickets £16

*Suitable for ages 16+

“ This combination of Up Pompeii, Carry On traditions and Panto elements could hardly fail to raise a titter or two - far more than that actually as the girls had the audience in stitches throughout and rightly so.” – Choice Radio, Worcester (on the 2019 Roman Romp)

 Sweeney Entertainments proudly present

T.REXTASY - The Greatest Hits Tour

Marc Bolan, with his band T.Rex, was one of the most flamboyant and charismatic stars of the original glam rock era.  With Bolan's special ingredient of Rock-a-Boogie songs, the band had a string of huge hits throughout the 1970s including Love to Boogie, Telegram Sam, Jeepster and 20th Century Boy.

T.Rextasy have now been performing around the world for over 25 years, a career that ironically out lives Marc’s very own T.Rex.  The band is now accepted as the world’s only official live tribute band dedicated to Marc Bolan & T.Rex, and the only band endorsed and approved by Marc Bolan’s family, estate, original ex-members of T.Rex, and Bolan’s catalogue management.  The band has been described by many as ‘beyond the boundaries of tribute’.

Truly a rock’n’roll concert for all ages - If you would like to know exactly what a Marc Bolan concert was like in the 1970s, this show is for you!

Tickets £21

QUOTES:

T.Rextasy – awarded the accolade of ‘The Best Live Tribute Band in the UK ’ by BBC1 TV.

‘They’re the closest you’re ever going to get to the real thing’

- Bill Legend (original T.Rex drummer)

‘T.Rextasy are the tribute act who break all the rules by being bloody brilliant.  Danielz is an exact replica of Marc, he’s uncanny.

- The Independent on Sunday

‘Danielz is a curator of Bolan’s life, a perfectionist protector of the legacy – T.Rextasy play with a poignant, flamboyant skill.’

- The Observer

“Danielz looks and sounds uncannily like Bolan and has dedicated his life to the man” – The Times

“Danielz is more than a career lookalike.  Here we have a serious guitarist with the animal grace of early Bolan and the clear unequivocal love of the music”

– The Stage

“Danielz just freaks me out!”

– Mickey Finn (original T.Rex percussionist)

We all love a bit of guitar wielding in a song, it’s iconic, soulful and – oh what a beautiful instrument!  The Story of Guitar Heroes is an awe-inspiring, dynamic show which transports you through time: from the 1950’s with artistes such as Chuck Berry and Hank Marvin from The Shadows, including gifted legends such as Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page, through to modern day players such as the great Brian May and the electrifying Steve Vai, to name but a few!

Presented by guitar virtuoso Phil Walker - this show’s extraordinarily talented band uses over 30 guitars to recreate and accurately reproduce the sound and ambience of each guitar hero. Featuring video footage of historical moments, with state-of-theart lighting and delivered with a light hearted vibe – this makes for a truly sensational and enjoyable evening.  Now in its 5th year, The Story of Guitar Heroes has become increasingly popular not only with many guitar players and musicians, but with people and families of all ages.  Don’t miss out on this spectacular show. You won’t be disappointed!
