EXTRA, EXTRA, READ ALL ABOUT IT...

On 6th April, we present a Wigan Casino Extravaganza!

It will feature founder and first Wigan All-Nighter DJ RUSS WINSTANLEY, supported by another original Wigan DJ and Wolves Catacombs' resident DJ 'PEP', who started his career at Youth Clubs in Stourbridge and Lye.  Completing the roster will be Brierley Hill's own JAMIE CARR, Willenhall's DAVE DALLAS & NEIL MITCHELL.

All local Stars in their own right, having performed at some of the West Midlands most popular events of the 70s, including the Summerhill, Kingfisher, Queen Mary, Lafayette, Willenhall Baths and Walsall Town Hall.

Wigan Casino is currently in its 50th Anniversary year (September 2023 - September 2024), having opened its hallowed doors on 23rd September 1973.

It soon became the most popular and famous Northern Soul Club in the Country, and then World, regularly accommodating 2,000+ attendees who danced the night away to the wonderful, uptempo Soul and Motown music favoured in the Midlands and North. This success continued unabated until it staged its last All-Nighter in 1981. Its legacy has continued, undiminished since then, and it remains the most important and iconic Soul Club ever.

Russ Winstanley both started and ended the club, during which time he introduced some of Soul Music's best loved records, including most famously, the Motown floorfiller "Do I Love You" by Frank Wilson.

He is supported on the night by Black Country legend 'PEP' who was a resident DJ at Wigan Casino between 74 - 77, following the closure of Wolverhampton's Catacombs Club in 1973 where he was also a resident DJ until the end. That Club also coincidentally celebrates its 50th Anniversary in 2024. Pep famously introduced records like "What" at Wigan and Jerry Williams' "If You Ask Me" (at the Catacombs) to the scene.

Brierley Hill's favourite son Jamie Carr plays on home turf, and other local boys Dave & Neil too hail from nearby Quarry Bank but made their names in the Walsall area.

Russ Winstanley is rarely seen outside of his beloved Wigan and we are chuffed to get him down here for this 'not to be missed' celebration of the World Famous "WIGAN CASINO" in its 50th Anniversary Year.

Limited tickets, only £10 from The Civic Box Office.

In the unlikely event this doesn't sell out, it will be £12 on the door.

Brierley Hill Civic is arguably the finest Dancehall in the West Midlands. Full size, polished, sprung floor and superb in-house EV Sound System.
